KINGS OF BITHYNIA. Prusias II Cynegos, 182-149 BC. Chalkous (Bronze, 12 mm, 1.87 g, 12 h), Nikomedeia. Head of a bridled horse to right. Rev. Arrow head. HGC 7, 635. RG 33. Very fine.
Traditionally described as a club, the ornament depicted on the reverse is more likely an oramented arrowhead. If this is a weapon, then it is certainly used to pierce and not to punch. Together with the bridled horse on the obverse, it is a direct reference to Prusias's nickname "Cynegos" = the hunter..
