SELEUKID KINGS OF SYRIA. Seleukos I Nikator, 312-281 BC. (Bronze, 20 mm, 7.25 g, 3 h), municipal issue of Seleukeia in Pieria, circa 300-281. Laureate and bearded head of Zeus to right. Rev. ΣΕΛΕΥΚΕΩΝ Plain thunderbolt (no wings); below, monogram. HGC 9, 1385 (S). SC -. WSM 894. Dark green patina. Light deposits, otherwise, very fine.

Seleukos I personally founded Seleukeia in Pieria in 300 BC, probably for use as a royal necropolis similar to Aigai in Macedonia. While this municipal issue is not covered by SC, coins of this type also exist in the name of Seleukos which are (cf. SC 32).
