SELEUKID KINGS OF SYRIA. Antiochos III 'the Great', 223-187 BC. (Bronze, 24 mm, 13.53 g, 11 h), Ekbatana, circa 205 BC, or perhaps earlier. Diademed head of Antiochos III to right. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΑΝΤΙΟΧΟΥ Nike advancing left, holding wreath in right hand and palm in left; in left field, monogram of DIO and horse's head left; to right, monogram of TBΛ. HGC 9, 482 (R2). ESM 611. SC 1256. Brown patina. Very fine.

From the Thomas Kirby Collection, USA.

According to Houghton and Lorber, this issue was probably struck circa 205 BC after Antiochos had concluded his eastern campaign, although it cannot be ruled at that it was struck somewhat earlier to commemorate "an intermediate victory closer to home, such as the submission of Parthyene".
