SELEUKID KINGS OF SYRIA. Demetrios II Nikator, first reign, 146-138 BC. (Bronze, 20 mm, 6.09 g, 12 h), quasi-municipal issue, Tyre, year 168 = 145-144 BC. Diademed head of Demetrios II to right. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΔΗΜΗΤΡΙΟΥ / ΤΥΡΙΩN and "of Tyre" (in Phoenician) Stern of galley to left; above, L HΞP. HGC 9, 1000 (R1-2). Newell, Tyre 100. SC 1968.2. Glossy black patina with light earthen highlights. Good very fine.

From the Thomas Kirby Collection, USA.

There are two varieties of this date according to Newell, one with the date HΞP above the galley (as here), and a much rarer variety with it below the galley. As a former specialist collector of Seleukid bronzes and someone who still pays closeattention to them, this cataloguer has never once seen an example of the date below the galley.
