SELEUKID KINGS OF SYRIA. Demetrios III Eukairos, 97/6-88/7 BC. (Bronze, 20 mm, 8.03 g, 12 h), Seleukeia in Pieria. Diademed head of Demetrios III to right. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΔΗΜΗΤΡΙΟΥ ΦΙΛΟΜΗΤΟΡΟΣ ΕΥΕΡΓΕΤΟΥ ΚΑΛΛΙΝΙΚΟΥ Winged thunderbolt on filleted pulvinar; to right, monogram. CSE 414. HGC 9, 1308 (R1-2). SC 2447. Dark green patina with earthen highlights. Very fine.

Struck at Seleukeia in Pieria which had been given autonomy by his father, Antiochos VIII, this interesting bronze coin advertised an unusual set of epithets for the king: Philometor Euergetes Kallinikos. These first and last of these had belonged to his father, while Euergetes recall Antiochos VIII's benefactions to the city.
