PHRYGIA. Peltae. Antoninus Pius, 138-161. (Bronze, 35.5 mm, 24.38 g, 6 h). ΤΙ ΑΙ ΚΑΙCΑΡ ΑΝΤΩΝEΙΝΟC Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Antoninus Pius to right. Rev. ΠEΛΤΗΝΩΝ ΜΑΚEΔΟΝΩΝ Athena standing facing, head left, holding olive-branch in right hand and spear and shield in left. RPC IV.3 Online temp. 1714. Waddington 6380 (same dies). Very rare - just four specimens noted in the RPC, only two of which are of this variety. Brown patina with earthen deposits. Very fine.

The entry in the RPC IV.3 Online database describes an altar before Athena. However, it is noted in the coin-specific listings that two of the four examples lack the altar - the Waddington coin cited above, and one other sold in Waddell I, 1982, 397.
