BYZANTINE SEALS. Georgios, Strategos?, circa 7th century. Seal or Bulla (Lead, 24 mm, 11.37 g, 12 h). ΓEΩP/ΓIOY in two lines; between, monogram flanked by two stars. Rev. +ΔΟY/ΛOY THC / ΘEOTO/KOY in four lines, the whole within dotted border. Zacos 816 var. (same issuer, but lacking the stars on the obverse ). An unusual and interesting seal. Good very fine.
According to Zacos, the monogram in the centre of the obverse is the letter Γ, the initial of Georgius. The way that the monogram is depicted, is more likely a TS, TZ, or ST, which is probably the initial of the surname of Georgios, or (more possibly) his title as Strategos, Stratelates or Strator.
