AXUM. Ebana, Circa 460-480. (Silver, 12 mm, 0.35 g). EBΛNΛ crowned and draped bust to right; within several circular borders. Rev. BCΛCIΛEY cross-crosslet with central lozenge. AC 74. H 35. Hahn & Keck 44. SyllAsh 277-282. Vaccaro 45. Partially gilded reverse. Clipped, otherwise, fair.
From a private research collection of Axumite small change.
EBANA is most clearly visible on coins of this type (unfortunately not true for this specimen) and helped to conclusively identify the name of this king, who previously was sometimes also referred to as Anaeb or Anas in scientific literature (see Hahn & Keck p. 100-101).
