Anonymous issues. Circa AD 75-125. Æ Tessera (17mm, 2.07 g, 6h). TRI VMP, laurel branch; IO IO across field / A dona militaria: two armillae within large torque with serpent-head ends. Woytek, Zwei 2-3; Rowan, Ashmolean 19-20. Green-brown patina, cleaning scratches, patina chipped in spots. Near VF.
Woytek reinterprets this type in the context of a Roman triumphal procession, suggesting that the reverse depicts a dona militaria, or special militarty decorations awarded during a triumph. The objects previously described as "horseshoes" are correctly armillae (armbands).
