John Comnenus-Ducas. As despot of Thessalonica, 1242-1244. BI Aspron Trachy (27.5mm, 2.15 g, 6h). Series I. Thessalonica mint. [I]ω ΔЄ, crowned half-length figure of John facing, wearing loros, holding scepter-cruciger and globus cruciger / St. Demetrius, nimbate, enthroned facing; holding sword across his lap in right hand; barred O to upper left, barred ΔH monogram to upper right. Cf. DOC IV 9 (for similar); cf. SB 2195 (same). Toned, large flan crack and natural hole. Good Fine. Extremely rare.
