FRANCE, Provincial. Normandie (county). temp. Richard II–Robert le Magnifique (the Magnificant). 996-1036. AR Denier (21mm, 0.77 g). Rotomagus (Rouen) mint. Struck circa 1000-1033. Short cross pattée between two annuleys; bars above and below / Short cross pattée with pellets in quarters. Dumas Group A, pl. XVII, 4; Legros 255; Duplessy, Féodales 26; Poey d'Avant 158, pl. VI, 2 (this coin illustrated?). Toned, edge loss. Near VF. Very rare.

Ex Vitangelo Collection.

The chipped edge on this example matches closely that of the specimen illustrated by line drawing in Poey d'Avant, Legros, and Duplessey, abeit with additional edge loss at 12h. Unfortunately, these publications provide no pedigree for that example.
