L. Sempronius Pitio / M. Atilius Saranus. Hybrid AR (or fourrèe?) Denarius, c. 148 BC. Obv. Helmeted head of Roma right; behind, PIΠO (blundered for PITIO); before, X. Rev. The Dioscuri galloping right; below horses, M.ATIL; in exergue, R(reversed)OMA. Cr. 216/1 (for obv.) and 214/1a (for rev.). AR. 3.19 g. 18.50 mm. RR. Interesting and rare die paring. Possibly a contemporary forgery. About VF. Babelon contemplates combination of obv. of L. Sempronius Pitio and rev. of M. Atilius Saranus. Cfr. Babelon Atilia 8 and Sempronia 2.
