Struck for use by the "Blue-coat Boys," scholars-a uniform based on 16th century dress, for foundlings living at Christ's Hospital which was founded by Edward VI. The school opened in 1552. Spence featured a "Blue-coat Boy" on two of his tokens, 707 and 724.
