Brandenburg-Ansbach. Karl Wilhelm Friedrich Taler 1730-V MS62+ NGC, Schwabach mint, KM176, Dav-1980, Schön-31, Wilmersdörffer-1007, Whiting-372, Erlanger-2033, Grüber Collection-4421. Commemorating the 200th anniversary of the Augsburg Confession. A charming double portrait type featuring the bust of Georg the Pious, and presenting absolutely glass-like surface quality throughout, with just some light chatter and a pair of scratches behind Georg to cap the grade. Otherwise choice in all respects, the offering appears to be of far finer striking quality than either the Erlanger or Whiting examples. Just the second we've had occasion to present, the last, an MS63, brought $4406 in our January 2013 NYINC Auction #3021.
