Brandenburg-Ansbach. Alexander Taler 1769-GS MS64 NGC, Schwabach mint, KM283, Dav-2000, Schön-131, Wilmersdörffer-1087, Grüber Collection-4595. Commemorating the acquisition of Bayreuth. Among the most attractive Taler designs produced during Christian Friedrich Karl Alexander's reign, a well-earned designation which is fully accounted for in incredibly fine specimens such as this. Clearly a longtime cabinet piece, the offering fields a splendid aged tone that marbles lilac, cupric, gold, and denim color in a thoroughly captivating display. While exceeded by the Grüber example (MS67), we can think of few other occasions bidders will have to acquire so elite a representative, and such a well-provenanced one at that.
