Brandenburg-Ansbach. Alexander Taler 1777-G MS65 NGC, Schwabach mint, KM304, Dav-2014, Schön-157, Wilmersdörffer-180, Grüber Collection-4677. A specimen for which the moniker "peak preservation" falls completely short of adequate to describe; even a brief survey of auction records of the last two decades makes abundantly clear the utter paucity of high-quality examples available to collectors, the type most usually coming mildly to extensively circulated. To date, only a single other example has certified similarly, the Peak specimen (ex. UBS Auction 74, January 2008, 103), reoffered in our April 2015 CICF Auction #3040 (lot 29838), which brought $2115. Further notable as a date altogether missing from both the Brand and Köhlmoos collections, certainly suggesting that this--the coin's first auction appearance in over two decades--is poised to be met with significant fanfare.
