German States
Brandenburg-Bayreuth. Georg Wilhelm Taler 1712 PPW-SR MS64 NGC, Bayreuth mint, KM131 (Rare), Madai-3522, von Schulthess-Rechberg-6106, Dav-2031, Schön-16, Reimmann-Unl., Wilmersdörffer-Unl. Stuck to commemorate the accession of Georg Wilhelm as margrave. A significant rarity among Taler collectors of the 18th century, not just for Brandenburg-Bayreuth, but across all German States numismatics, with even those gently handled and having seen minor circulation bringing substantial sums when brought to market. Missing from some of the most prestigious cabinets of German coinage, including Reimmann, von Schulthess-Rechberg, Wilmersdörffer, Brand, Köhlmoos, and Goodman, we have only been able to locate two others coming to auction in the last two decades. While the only occupant at either PCGS or NGC, this near-gem wonder endures as one of, if not the finest extant. Laudably bold devices find themselves wholly enveloped in sublime nacreous patina, glimmering at even the most subtle flick of the wrist, contributing to an advanced aesthetic caliber that will carry the piece at hand into a fine cabinet at the fall of the hammer.
