German States
Brunswick-Lüneburg-Calenberg. Johann Friedrich 2/3 Taler (Gulden) 1677 MS65 NGC, Hannover mint, KM187, Dav-377A, Knyphausen-2442, Welter-1728. Variety without inner border on obverse. Save for a few planchet imperfections, which are very much the norm for this 17th-century Gulden, it is hardly a stretch to say that the present offering is very nearly unimprovable. Its surfaces, strikingly original and free from handling, are bathed in an extraordinary iridescent chroma, oscillating from cobalt to apricot to magenta. It is truly incredible that we have the opportunity to offer two representatives of this type-date in such nearly identical visual quality and this conditional level.
