Brunswick-Lüneburg-Calenberg. Johann Friedrich 2/3 Taler (Gulden) 1677 MS65 NGC, Hannover mint, KM-A224, Dav-377A, Knyphausen-2442, Welter-1728. Variety without inner border on obverse, and ships keeling left. Truly astonishing considering the equally attractive MS64 of the same date and type in the present sale, and yet it is hardly difficult to see what makes the present piece deserving of its fully gem certification. In addition to an absolutely vibrant array of sapphire, amber, and amethyst coloration, none of the usual annealing flaws occur over its surfaces--pointing toward a piece that was as carefully prepared and struck and it was preserved to the present day.
