Brunswick-Lüneburg-Celle. Christian von Minden Taler 1624-HS MS65 NGC, Clausthal mint, KM9.18, Dav-6457, Knyphausen-8374, Welter-921. As perfect of quality as one could likely ever expect to see from the type, even calling this offering a masterpiece would not quite be to do it justice. Indeed, few 17th-century coins allow us such an accurate window into how artists at the time intended their designs to be rendered and presented as does this unmistakably Gem Mint State 1624 Taler of Christian von Minden. Interestingly a type that was not in the Goodman or Millennia Collections, and a date missing from Brand, we have never seen an example from this year finer than an AU58, with this coin's census-topping status absolutely blowing the competition out of the water. Every inch of the design is crisp and the fields surrounding fresh, allowing endless opportunities for the viewer to appreciate mint fresh luster, tinged just slightly peach.
