Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel. August II Taler 1653-HS MS63 NGC, Goslar or Zellerfeld mint, KM441, Dav-6351, Knyphausen-7800, Welter-799. An issue whose iconic three-quarters bust of August the Younger is benefitted enormously by this preservation, thanks to a combination of extremely expressive engraving and exacting striking quality. Appearing almost lifelike, August's portrait is set against a wonderful mauve and blush tone that evenly graces the fields and wells to an almost fiery color along the raised elements. Not surprisingly the highest, and only Mint State, grade recorded for the type at either grading service.

Ex. Goldberg Auction 20 (May 2003, Lot 503); Köhlmoos Collection (Münzen & Medaillen AG Basel Auction 91, March 2001, Lot 144)

From the collector: When I first saw this coin in 2003, I was amazed at how eye-appealing yet uncirculated it was. This 300 year old standard issue was a must-have for my collection. From the Cape Coral Collection of German Coins, Part I
