German States
Cologne. Sede Vacante Taler 1761 MS64 NGC, Koblenz mint, KM159, Dav-2176, Schön-68, Noss-772. A notoriously elusive type whose very shallow engraving makes it difficult to find a specimen either with appreciable detail or generally free from wear. And yet, we have the occasion to present a specimen which ticks both boxes here. To date the sole entry in the certified population to be granted unquestionable Mint State status, and at the cusp of gem at that, the piece at hand positively abounds in fresh luster which cartwheels effortlessly around the fields, an airy pearl patina coupling with champagne color in a captivating visual display. We have not handled an example of this type since 2018, when an AU55 brought $2040 in our April CICF sale.
