Frankfurt. Free City "Reformation" Taler 1717-IIF MS65 NGC, Frankfurt am Main mint, KM183, Dav-2218, Schön-25, Whiting-170, Joseph/Fellner-693. Celebrating the 200th anniversary of the Reformation. Absolute eye candy at its finest, there is not an angle from which one can view this coin and not be totally mesmerized. Head-on, the offering is absolutely medallic and evenly dove-gray, with even the slightest tilt revealing the full array of iridescent seafoam, cobalt, amber, plum, and sunset color across the fields. By all indications meriting of a "plus" or "star" on account of its superior eye appeal, this remains the sole example yet certified--a moniker it has held for over a decade--with even high-end collections such as Hesselgesser, Goodman, and Millennia not possessing a specimen. Almost certainly among the absolute highest-caliber examples available to commerce, and a coin whose stand-out quality has been well-recognized for the last century.
