Frankfurt. Free City Taler 1862 MS66 PCGS, Frankfurt am Main mint, KM370, Dav-652, AKS-10, Thun-144. For all intents and purposes a Proof striking, a conclusion based not only on the supremely mirrorlike quality of the surfaces--discernable from even an arm's length--but also on account of painstaking needle-sharp detail of the devices, including the squared-off shape of both the letters and rims, this despite the Standard Catalog no recording the type in Proof finish. Even more enticing is the coin's exquisite toning palette, what at first appears to be smoky lilac color in the fields turning to apricot when it is tipped from end to end, and welling to sapphire and amethyst along the peripheries. Seemingly struck from the same dies as the single specimen presently recognized by PCGS as a Proof (PR66), and undoubtedly a very special issue.
