Freising. Josef Conrad von Schroffenberg Taler ND (1790) MS64 NGC, Regensburg mint, KM33, Dav-2249, Schön-1 (under Regensburg), Riggauer-47, Sellier-94. Boasting an old world cabinet feel that is utterly captivating, every inch of the specimen speaks of quality, heightened by an especially glassy champagne backlight that features touches of iridescent color. Quite clearly superior to the Köhlmoos example--which shows clear hairlining of the obverse in the auction plates--we would note that while the Millennia Collection contained an MS65 of the dated type, it did not contain a representative of this undated variety. Admitting just the slightest cabinet rub to the bishop's temple and cheek, likely all that precludes fully gem status, between NGC and PCGS, just one other example grades as problem-free Mint State (MS62). For the collector who seeks unrivaled quality, we can urge them to look no further.
