German States
Hohenlohe-Kirchberg. Christian Friedrich Karl Taler 1781 W-WKS MS66 NGC, Schwabach mint, KM12, Dav-2359A, Schön-A6, Albrecht-212. "W" mintmaster mark below the bust variety. A highly ranked single-year issue blessed with near-medallic appearances, the steely low-lying field supporting a surprisingly crisp portrait and crowned arms in impressive relief that projects towards the viewer when witnessed in hand. Nary a visual imperfection can be noted apart from the occasional wisp, even to the most scrupulous of eyes. Of the two types, distinguished by mintmaster marks "G" or "W" below the bust, this appears to be the lesser encountered, and while the piece is the finest for the variety, an MS67★ remains finest for the type.
