João V gold 10000 Reis 1724-M UNC Details (Cleaned) NGC, Minas Gerais mint, KM116, LMB-244, Guimaraes-1724-1a. Narrow crown. First date of issue. The imposing key date of the type, much scarcer than the Dobrão key. An example from the peak of the Brazilian gold rush, chiefly supplied by the small village of Vila Rica, which provided far more gold to the Portuguese in a few decades than all the gold mined in the Spanish Americas across several centuries. Despite the grade qualifier, this piece shows remarkable surfaces composed by razor-sharp and deeply struck devices with considerable luster to the recesses. Much more eye-appealing than the RLM piece (AU55), as it lack's the usual weakness to the highpoints, as well the common die cracks or adjustment marks, being one of the most attractive "details" coin the cataloger has ever seen.
