MACEDONIAN KINGDOM. Philip III Arrhidaeus (323-317 BC). AV stater (18mm, 8.59 gm, 2h). NGC AU 5/5 - 4/5, Fine Style. Lifetime issue of Babylon, ca. 323-317 BC. Head of Athena right, hair falling in three loose corkscrew curls, upswept at temple, and falling loose over left shoulder, wearing pendant earring, beaded necklace, and triple-crested Corinthian helmet pushed back on head, short parallel crest ends, bowl decorated with leaping griffin right / ΦΙΛΙΠΠΟΥ / B-ΑΣΙΛΩΣ, Nike advancing left, wreath in outstretched right hand, stylis cradled in left arm; shield in outer left field, HΔT monogram in left field below wing, A in right field below wing. Price P196 corr. (A in left field). Well struck in high relief from dies of meticulous style. Extremely rare - only two examples in sales archives, this coin inclusive.
