German States
Prussia. Friedrich II Taler ND (1751)-ICM MS61 PCGS, Aurich mint, Dav-2591, Salv-48, von Schrötter-1651, Olding-368. Of the utmost rarity to both Taler collectors and enthusiasts of colonial trade issues, struck for the Royal Prussian Asiatic Society that wished to engage in commerce overseas, looking to capitalize on the premium Taler issues brought abroad. The engraving is painstakingly embossed upon the flan beneath and highly evocative, especially when witnessed in a decisively Mint State condition as is seen here. The trademark Wildman and oriental figure flank the arms of the Asiatic Society, while Friedrich's regal portrait decorates the obverse, engulfed in deep cobalt and violet patination. On the whole, this survivor is among the finest currently extant and is most deserving of bids commensurate with the growing Asian and German markets.
