Of the specimens from Elizabeth I's elusive gold series this cataloger has handled, this endures among the finer representatives. Having been spared from the ravages of circulation, this near-choice example ranks in the upper echelons, and among the entire denomination of gold Crowns witnessed by NGC, only two certify a single-point higher. Lemon-gold surfaces abound, enlivened by flashes of mint brilliance across its faces, highlighting atypically sharp engraved motifs. To our knowledge, only a handful of these have come to market in recent years, many of which suffer from mild striking weakness, a feature completely absent in the example at hand, which surely must be given further consideration by the conditionally-conscious collector.
