Great Britain
James I gold Unite ND (1618-1619) MS61 NGC, Tower mint, Plain Cross mm, Second Coinage, Fifth Bust, KM45, S-2620, Schneider-Unl. 10.04gm. The second-highest grade for the type yet awarded by NGC, and truly a coin which benefits enormously from this level of preservation. Showing full detail overall for what is usually a shallowly engraved and flatly struck issue, crispness to the motifs pairs with ample die polish in the fields to establish its Mint quality, perhaps even suggesting a somewhat conservative assigned grade. Moreover, executed on a markedly even, unbent flan with good centering, the offering is perhaps even more attractive than the MS62 we sold in May, which brought $19,200.
