Great Britain
James I Laurel ND (1624) MS61 PCGS, Tower mint, Trefoil mm, Third coinage, KM74, S-2638B, N-2114, Schneider-88. 9.01gm. Thoroughly engaging for a type almost exclusively encountered in AU designations, here seen in a thrilling Mint State. Increasingly collectible as a type, these Laurels of James I have seen greater sums in recent years, the meteoric rise likely due to the infusion of more and conditionally conscious collectors. Razor-sharp and well-centered, two characteristics seemingly difficult to acquire as a pair, yet every detail remains crisp and full legible across the faces. Among the conditional censuses of NGC and PCGS for this variety, only the previous example ranks higher, and is certainly worthy of consideration.
