William III gold "Fine Work" 5 Guineas 1701 AU55 PCGS, KM508, S-3456, Schneider-481. DECIMO TERTIO edge. Plain Scepters variety. Rarely do we have the opportunity to handle a single "Fine Work" issue of William in this expansive 5 Guineas denomination, yet to witness three in the same sale is simply unheard of. While certifying at the edge of Mint State designations, the attributes one hopes to encounter from this series are still fully apparent. The high-relief portrait of William immediately makes itself apparent, featuring not a hint of weakness and only the most trivial highpoint friction which bounds the grade, yet doing practically nothing to hinder the piece's overall charm. A deep patina envelops both faces tinged by amber reflectivity witnessed to the protected regions of the outer registers, confirming its status as an advanced representative for its grade. As such, we expect an engaged collector response when crossing the auction block.
