British India. William IV gold Proof Restrike 2 Mohurs 1835.-(c) PR64 NGC, Calcutta mint, KM452.1, Fr-1592b, Prid-3, S&W-1.4. Reeded edge. An ever-appreciable series, even when encountered as a restrike, showcasing the famous East India Company reverse with a surprisingly high-relief lion. Characteristic granularity, clearly indicative of its restrike status, decorates the faces on the whole, and find themselves most notable to the engraved devices, yet are gently obscured by the highly reflective nature of this Proof striking. Though exceedingly light, typical hairlines are noted to the fields, the pervasive golden frost to William's portrait and the reverse lion motif craft a near-cameo contrast that remains visible at every angle of inspection.
