Venice. Alvise Mocenigo IV gold 10 Zecchini ND (1763-1778) MS61 NGC, Venice mint, KM673.1, Fr-1419, CNI-VIIIb.121, Bellesia-364 (R3), Paolucci-129.11 (R1). 34.76gm. An astonishing rendition of this large, coveted type. Likely struck for trade and highly sought-after by collectors, as are all Multiple Ducats, this spectacular survivor presents Mint State surfaces throughout the broad flan. Needle-point motifs can be appreciated when analyzing the fully engraved peripheries, lightly toned and scintillating underlying luster across the crevices. From the less than a dozen pieces offered in the last two decades, none are comparable to the quality seen here--a fact confirmed by the conditional censuses, where the current offering remains the sole problem-free occupant, while all others retain plugged holes, evidence of mount removal, or extensive scratches. Unsurprisingly, this is the sole piece graded by either NGC or PCGS.
