Charles I silver "Death and Memorial" Medal ND (1649) MS64 NGC, Eimer-162b, MI-I-347/201. Dies by J. Roettiers. These medals were struck under the order of Charles II as a memorial to his father, who was beheaded in 1649 for treason, and are more commonly found in the bronze format. The obverse features an armored bust of Charles I facing right, and the reverse the Hand of God extending a crown above an English landscape. The legend in Latin translates to "Learn virtue from me, good fortune from others." A dark patina is accentuated by radiant luster, with minimal blemishes to distract the eye. Teal undercurrents seem to radiate around the late king's bust, while rosy fields and an ominous cloud of teal on the reverse give it an air of divinity.
