Diva Faustina Senior. Died AD 140/1. Æ Sestertius (34mm, 27.12 g, 11h). Rome mint. Struck under Antoninus Pius, circa AD 141-146. Veiled and draped bust right / MATER DEVM SALVTARI, Cybele seated right on throne between two lions, holding drum in left hand on her left knee, right arm on throne. RIC III 1145 (Pius); Banti 84. VF, rough green patina.

From the R. D. Frederick Collection. Includes ticket from a previous owner noting that it was purchased from Baldwins in June, 1967.

Although Cybele appeared on a small number of Republican issues, this sestertius marks her debut on Roman Imperial coinage.
