CANADA, Blacksmith tokens – "Ships, Colonies & Commerce" types. CU Token (26mm, 3.97 g, 6h). Mint in Lower Canada (Montreal?). Struck circa 1835. Ship under sail right, with drooping British flag at stern / SHIPS/ COLONIES/ &/ COMMERCE. Medium flan. Lees 3; Breton 997; Faulkner, Imperial p. 140-1; Charlton BL-24A2. With ICCS certificate OY204, graded VF-20.

From the RH Collection.

The weight of this specimen places it in between the usual ranges of BL-24A2 (4.2 g to 4.7 g) and BL-24A3 (2.9 g to 3.5 g). No die rust is evident between the main and fore masts, though this die state can occur in either group as well. Faulkner does distinguish a lower weight variety associated with the "medium flan" criteria, but that example weighs even less, at 3.13 g.
