Poland, Danzig Stadt (Gdańsk, Free Imperial City). Peace of Westphalia Silvered Cast Æ Medal. After the original by Sebastian Dadler, 1644. AMBIGUO PAX ET BELLUM LUCTAMINE CERTANT, PAX EUROPA VOVET, LÆTA TROPHÆA FERAT!, the goddess Bellona struggles with the god Pax; to left, a globe is held aloft by a hand with the caduceus of Mercury resting on top, and to right, the shield of Minerva, adorned with the head of Medusa, and a spear rest against an olive tree / LÆTA TROPHÆA TULIT VICTO PAX OPTIMA BELLO, NUNC THEMIS IN TERRAM ET COPIA PULSA REDIT, Pax standing facing slightly to left on the body of the defeated Mars, holding aloft the caduceus of Mercury and palm and olive branches; in the background to left stands Justitia, holding sword and scales, and to right Abundantia, holding cornucopiae and olive branch. Maué 55. 42.10g, 60mm, 12h.
