GREAT BRITAIN. Gold Broad Pattern (20 Shillings), 1662. London Mint. Charles II. PCGS Genuine--Tooled, AU Details.
S-3337A; N-2780; KM-Pn32. The last coin to be denominated as such and followed by the Guinea coinage of 21 Shillings, though the unit would make somewhat of a comeback with the later Sovereign of 20 Shillings. Often referred to as a pattern, this type was produced only the quantity of a few thousand, accounting to failures of machinery and constant die cracking. Given the limited production run, these types should be seen as VERY RARE, and are a wonderful and uncommon occurrence when one reaches market. Some unfortunate tooling is noted in the hair of the monarch, but this is not excessively disturbing to overall eye appeal. Some light wear is spotted on the uppermost portions of the design, with traces of original luster protected in the recesses. A strong example, despite its noted drawbacks, and one that is certain to commandeer the attention of all British specialists.
