GREAT BRITAIN. Guinea, 1774. London Mint. George III. PCGS PROOF-62.
S-3728; Fr-355; KM-604. More masterfully engraved than the predecessor or successor types' busts, this Guinea demonstrates a mastery of both engraving and strike that give this example an attractive and lifelike representation of George III. Though not qualifying for the cameo distinction, this proof does present some delineation between fields and devices, with the latter being lightly frosted. Close inspection with magnification does reveal some evidence of friction, and a miniscule amount of contact, hardly observable without the aid of a loupe. A touch of sienna color brightens the reverse, with a highly original and lustrous sheen present throughout the rest of the flan. An exceptional example, and one that is certain to receive much attention on the strength of its eye appeal. To view all items from the Mark and Lottie Salton Collection, click
