S-3872; Fr-394a; KM-787. Mintage: 773. The only year of issue of the 'Old Head' bust 5 Pounds, this amazing near-Gem proof reaches an elevated status on account of limited nature of proof strikes. Although genuinely SCARCE in any condition, this piece is an elite RARITY when preserved so nicely, with many examples featuring rough handling and hairlines. The fields on the generously sized flan are deeply mirrored, and the devices stuck with a light coating of frost, providing the amazing cameo contrast. An entrancing issue from near the end of Victoria's reign, and one of the critical key pieces of her entire coinage.
