SPAIN. Majorca (Balearic Islands). 5 Pesetas, 1823. Ferdinand VII. PCGS AU-58.
KM-C-L9.1; Cal-Type 315#1302. Royalist issue, struck as emergency currency during the wars between Ferdinand VII and the revolutionaries who favored the Constitution of 1812. Sensational quality for the type, this piece has a strike that far surpasses most survivors, with near complete detail within the ornate outer designs and central stamps that are fully legible and possess impressive sheen in the fields. The surfaces are also superb, displaying few marks and a beautiful all-around iridescence comprised of blue, purple and orange-golden hues. The finest example we've seen of this type, it is also the single finest certified by PCGS or NGC. For its quality, beauty and historic nature, a coin that is certainly deserving of a premium bid.
