Unusual Partly Plated Copy of Bement II

Covers somewhat discolored; very good or better. Adams 35, with some plates. Rated A- overall: "Superb English gold and silver. Extensive European, middle ages to 19th century. 1895 gold proof set." A very rare variant of the hardbound post-sale catalogue, deliberately issued with only four of the nine photographic plates usually encountered, interspersed in the text rather than bound together at the end as usual. A curious production. In the preface, Chapman notes that "every piece is a gem of its kind." The plates depict British and Continental rarities, including multiple thalers. Clain-Stefanelli 7958.
