1866 Cogan Rarity
Cogan, Edward. CATALOGUE OF A COLLECTION OF AMERICAN AND FOREIGN SILVER & COPPER COINS, TOGETHER WITH A FEW COLONIAL PIECES, AND AMERICAN & OTHER MEDALS. Philadelphia: Thomas Birch & Son, May 3, 1866 [actually May 2, 1866]. 8vo, original green printed paper covers. 10, (2) pages; 338 lots. Fine. Adams 17. A rare Cogan catalogue, easy to miss as his name doesn't appear in it. Specifically noted by Adams in his introduction to Cogan: "A number of other Cogan sales are 'tough'--particularly those of May 2, 1866 and January 12, 1864 as well as others in that general timeframe" (page 18). Attinelli page 44: "By an error, the catalogue is dated the 3d, the sale took place on Wednesday, May 2d." Ex Myron Xenos Library; ex David Sklow Sale 11, lot 362; ex Cardinal Collection Library.
(Estimate: $150)
