Collector Publications of the 1880s
Davison, Alvah [editor]. THE COLLECTOR'S LEDGER. Formerly The Youth's Ledger. Volume IV, Nos. 2, 4, 5 and 11 (Bloomfield, New Jersey, May, July and August 1888, and February 1889). 8vo, original printed card covers. Folded for mailing. Near fine. [with] Batchelder, M.D. [editor]. OUR AMERICAN YOUTH. Volume II, No. 3 (St, Louis, April 1885). Tabloid [39.5 by 27.5 cm], original printed paper covers. 8 pages. Plus three subsequent issues, published in octavo format (also with printed paper covers): Volume II, Nos. 7, 10 and 11 (St. Louis, September 1885, and January and February 1886). Generally very good. Bourne 1880-100 and 1880-31. The Collector's Ledger focused more on philately than on numismatics, but featured articles about coins in at least half of its issues. Very scarce. The August 1888 issue includes a profile of Hiram Deats. Crawford 841 (under Youth's Ledger). Our American Youth billed itself in it earlier issues as "For Stamp, Coin and Curiosity Collectors," though it later focused exclusively on philately. Ex M. Bourne Library.
