Near Complete Set of Harzfeld Sales
Harzfeld, S.K. AUCTION SALES OF COINS AND MEDALS. New York: Bangs, 1877-1881. A nearly complete set, being 15 of the 16 catalogues issued, lacking only Sale 8 (December 30, 1879) for completion. 8vo, original printed paper covers. Sales 1-4, 6-7, 13 and 15-16 are hand-priced. Sales 7, 13 and 15 are removed from previous bindings; Sale 13 lacks the rear cover. Generally very good. Adams 1-7 and 9-16. An interesting, if short-lived, series of sales. Harzfeld was only active in the U.S. for three and a half years before poor health led him to retire to his native Germany, where he died in 1883. According to Adams, "Harzfeld's descriptions of European as well as ancient pieces are authoritative." Ex Cardinal Collection Library.
