Key Frank Katen Catalogues
Katen, Frank and Laurese. PUBLIC AND MAIL BID SALES 31-42. Washington, D.C., etc., 1966-1975. Twelve consecutive catalogues. Six with prices realized lists, including both Fuld sales. Near fine. Includes a number of important numismatic literature catalogues from what may be considered to be Frank & Laurese Katen's peak, culminating in the 1971 sales of the George Fuld Library (Sales 36 and 37). Also present are the notable catalogues of the Floyd B. Newell, Nathan N. Eglit, R.L. Noyes and Sol Kaplan libraries. Numismatists in general and numismatic bibliophiles in particular are in Frank Joseph Katen's debt. In the second half of his numismatic career not only did he, assisted by his wife Laurese, almost single-handedly supply an entire generation with rare and out of print publications necessary for serious numismatic research, he also pointed the way to the cadre of numismatic booksellers who sprang up in the 1970s and 1980s as the field expanded.
