Matching Set of Leatherbound Ford Library Sales
Kolbe, George Frederick [in association with Stack's]. NUMISMATICA AMERICANA. THE JOHN J. FORD, JR. REFERENCE LIBRARY. PARTS ONE AND TWO. Riverside, June 1, 2004, and Long Beach, June 4 & 6, 2005. Two volumes. 4to, original black quarter morocco; fine black cloth sides lettered in gilt and with color illustrations mounted on front covers; all page edges gilt; silk markers; specially commissioned marbled endpapers; clear dust-jackets. 308, (2); 172 pages; 1750 lots in all; numerous color and monochrome illustrations, prices realized lists. Fine. The Special Leatherbound Editions of this landmark American numismatic library. The first Ford sale is Kolbe's masterwork, and is unquestionably the most important single-volume numismatic literature auction catalogue published in this country. The two parts (Kolbe Sales 93 and 96) encompass a stunning array of rare and standard works important both for their content and condition. The leather used in binding these special edition Ford catalogues was of very high quality, and the binder used whatever colors were available--adding some variety, but making matching sets a matter of chance. Kolbe 1065.
