Rare 1871 Auction Broadside
Birch & Son, Auctioneers, Thos. CATALOGUE OF A VALUABLE COLLECTION OF COINS, CURIOSITIES, &C. Philadelphia, January 25, 1871. Broadside [61 by 41 cm], handsomely framed under glass in brown wood with gilt border. 280 lots. Fold-marks, some separation now restored. Very good or better, in a fine frame. Unrecorded in Attinelli, Gengerke, and the American Numismatic Society library catalogue, and the only copy we have encountered. The sale featured a run of United States large cents (with some effort made to mention differences in variety), half cents, nickel cents, etc. The Birch firm also issued a broadside for a sale held February 23, 1871, which was originally erroneously dated January 25, but they are in fact different sales. Ex Kolbe Sale 100, lot 404 (since framed); ex Jim Neiswinter Library.
